In The Country's Environmental Reconstruction

New York , NY --On Saturday, May 14, 2005 , The Haitian Independence Committee will host a 201st Haitian Independence Celebration Fundraising Ball at The Puck Building (Corner of Houston in historic SoHo ) in New York City at 295 Lafayette Street . The theme: “A Celebration of the 201st Anniversary of Haitian Independence And a New Vision for the Future, One Person, One Tree At A Time.”

Planned to honor the Haitian Flag Day, the gala will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the evening will feature gourmet cuisine, cultural entertainment and dancing. There will be a presentation by the Prime Minister of Haiti, His Excellency Gerard Latortue and by Felix Augustin , Consul General of the Haitian Consulate in New York . Eliassaint Magloire , an Agronomist with ORE , will be receiving an award in recognition of their successful environmental efforts and Daniel Laroche, M.D., President, Empire State Medical Association, NYS affiliate, National Medical Association is serving as Master of Ceremonies.

Proceeds from the event will go towards planting fruit trees in Haiti to aid in the country's environmental reconstruction via the Organization for the Rehabilitation of the Environment, A US-based non profit 501c3 organization ( www.oreworld.org ).

The event is co-sponsored by the Haitian Consulate, Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad, the Haitian Times , and the National Medical Association. Advance tickets are $200.00 and $250 at the door. Corporate tables are also available. This special occasion offers an opportunity for networking between professionals and business leaders in a fun, glamorous evening with the charm and gaiety of the Creole and a rich cultural mix.
